Oh Portland...

I've conceded the fact that I will never be "up to date" with my blog.  So let's just let it be what it is... whatever that is.

Portland... oh Portland.  That's the type of thing you say about that friend you have that has such a unique personality and continues to show it in interesting ways.  Where do I even start with you Portland?

West Coast!!

Sorry for the delay since the last post... jet lag.

Portland HO
Ok let's start with the elephant in the room.  Yes, Kyle and Dave snuck out of NYC and jet-setted off to the fine state of Oregon.  There's something homey about living in a state that starts with "O" again.  So we made it... we crammed all of our stuff from Ford-Explorer-size to Toyota-Camry-size and threw it on a truck.

Return to Tourism

And so they headed back to their temporary home in the big city after a busy weekend visiting family and friends. What better to do when returning home than to indulge in some more TOURISM? It's pretty much a way of life at this point so let's spice things up and do the mother of all touristy things in NYC this weekend...

NYC Part 7

Another week in NYC, another great NYC weekend.  From the zoo to underground Mexican restaurants, a good time was had by all (or... both).  Here's to not getting sick of each other :)

La Esquina
Guide to dining at La Esquina:

  1. Call three weeks to the day prior to make a reservation. Plan to place between 10 to 200 phone calls to get in touch with the hostess.
  2. When making the reservation, mention "The Hamptons" or else your reservation will be discarded.
  3. Show up at the unmarked door within the Corner Deli and speak with the lady with the walkie-talkie to be let in.
  4. Discreetly pass her a $20 bill if you want to be seated within an hour of your reservation.
  5. Wind down the stairs an through the kitchen to be seated at a poche bar for cocktails.
  6. Ask for extra ice to have your margarita laced with cocaine.
  7. Be seated in a very cool cellar-feeling atmosphere and order multiple super delicious small plate Mexican cuisines.
  8. Leave at least 25% tip or never be so lucky to get a reservation again.

Birthday Week!

Welcome to your bonus birthday-edition of the blog! Instead of 2 weekend days of entertaining blog content for the week, you get 3 FULL DAYS of Kyle & Dave adventures! Let's get started.

Fancy Dinner

So for every year Kyle is old, I decided to spend 2 extra dollars on dinner... and it was worth every year. We went to David Burke Kitchen. I picked it (with some help from Allison) based on the reportedly good cuisine, and new outdoor seating. We got one of the two. The temperature here likes to drop drastically once the sun gets below skyscraper level, so we opted for an indoor table. The food was amazing. If you look at the website you will see it is fancy looking, and Kyle and I can't remember a time when BOTH of our meals were so well done. Kyle had scallops and pork belly, and I had pork chops. PLUS we got to see David Burke himself. I guess he's a pretty popular chef 'round these parts. I just checked his wikipedia page though and it is nowhere near as impressive as that of Michael Symon, so chalk that up as a win for Cleveland!

NYC Part 5

Juilliard

So I was hanging out with Julia Stiles at Juilliard when I realized my friend Mike that also goes there was having a dress rehearsal for his trombone choir concern the next day. I thought I'd pop in. It was a good time - it is just like going to a real concert except you don't have to pay and you get to see the musicians get ridiculed in the middle of the performance. Thanks for the entertainment Mike.
