Birthday Week!

Welcome to your bonus birthday-edition of the blog! Instead of 2 weekend days of entertaining blog content for the week, you get 3 FULL DAYS of Kyle & Dave adventures! Let's get started.

Fancy Dinner

So for every year Kyle is old, I decided to spend 2 extra dollars on dinner... and it was worth every year. We went to David Burke Kitchen. I picked it (with some help from Allison) based on the reportedly good cuisine, and new outdoor seating. We got one of the two. The temperature here likes to drop drastically once the sun gets below skyscraper level, so we opted for an indoor table. The food was amazing. If you look at the website you will see it is fancy looking, and Kyle and I can't remember a time when BOTH of our meals were so well done. Kyle had scallops and pork belly, and I had pork chops. PLUS we got to see David Burke himself. I guess he's a pretty popular chef 'round these parts. I just checked his wikipedia page though and it is nowhere near as impressive as that of Michael Symon, so chalk that up as a win for Cleveland!

Today Show

I think it is a rule that once a year on your birthday you get to drag your spouse along to do whatever you want... such as wake up at 4 in the morning to go wait in line for hours to stand by a fence for hours watching the morning news. Ok I guess she didn't have to twist my arm THAT hard. Turns out we had a pretty good time. Based on what we read online, you have to get there at 5am to get a spot. For reference that's not true. We were the third group of people there. The first was this group of drug reps that were there to advertise their cure for Alzheimer's (since Meredith from the show is leaving to take care of her husband with Alzheimer's **correction - may have been a false rumor). Innappropriate, and annoying. I'm intentionally not mentioning the name of the drug because that would just give them more press (to my thousands of readers). So we got it, got our pick of location, got to see all the stars of the today show (and Glee) up close and personal, and most importantly got our 4 seconds of fame on national TV. Without further adeu, here's my little montage of us on the Today Show:

Also, we sent out this pic to family and friends, and I think a lot of you thought it was a screen capture from the actual show.  I have to fess up and say it was just the Today Show intern walking around taking crowd pictures.

And here's a priceless pic of Kyle and Lenny!

Out to the Movies

Just cause we are busy experiencing a new city doesn't mean we can't take some time and relax in a movie theater. So, since you can't walk 1 block in this city without seeing a sign for Bridesmaids, I figured I would throw Kyle a bone on this one and go see the "chick flick". I think it is always good to go into movies with expectations low, because we both thought it was hilarious! I laughed out loud many times - the casting was really good which made the movie for me.

Chelsea Part II

"Dish" for dinner - we finally found a cheap, healthy, laid-back restaurant... and then realized we were the only coed couple there. Welcome to Chesea.

West Villiage

Time for another Bobby Flay throwdown restaurant! Taim Falafel & Smoothie Bar where Kyle gave Falafel another chance, and we both loved it. Good stuff - also tried "Milk and Cookies" nearby. The indulgence never stops :)

Sweet Lens

I decided to rent a wide angle camera lens for the weekend as well. I had fun with it, but didn't really get anything spectacular. I was really hoping to get a stellar night shot of the Queensboro bridge, but had trouble keeping the edges in focus with this lens.  For all you photogs out there, I rented Nikon's 14mm 2.8 lens.

Wait, ALL the kids from Glee? And Meredith's NOT leaving? So your sign was in vain? And cool, I like the montage -- you guys got some good face time! Always right at the beginning or end of the crowd clip though, weird. Maybe your signs were distinctive enough that they were easy markers for the cameramen to know where they started and stopped. I like the blue background.

Testing...testing...I've posted 3 comments that haven't appeared. Trying again. We saw Bridesmaids too, and also found it hilarious! (Caveat to people in my age group, though--some of the humor was rather adolescent, but it improved as the movie went along.) Also thought the casting was great. Don't know her name, but the sister-in-law of the bride was a stitch! :)
